About Niko Brown

Colour, vibrancy and creativity run through Niko Brown’s work. Her fused glass
art reflects her fun, bright, happy and slightly quirky outlook on the world.
Fascinated and inspired by the unpredictable nature of working with fused
glass, Niko always says that once it’s in the kiln, it has a life and an energy of
its own. The imperfections, the wibbles and wobbles that come out of the kiln
add another layer to its character.

Niko is ‘self-taught through obsession’. After commissioning a glass bead
necklace to wear at her rainbow-themed wedding, she discovered and fell
in love with fused glass. Her husband thought it was a fad. More than eight
years on, he’s one of several people working for the business full-time.
Starting with a kiln at home in Hertfordshire, she inhaled as much knowledge
as she could from books and videos. In 2011, bursting with ideas, she started
running workshops and selling at craft fairs. Two years later she opened her
own studio in Hertford and in 2015 she launched a gallery in nearby Ware to
showcase and sell both her own work and pieces by other artists.

Although her business is fused glass, like many artists, Niko’s creativity is fuelled
by exploring and playing with ideas, colour, pattern and imagination using
anything she can get her hands on; collage, pen and ink, screen printing,
watercolour… the list is endless.

In 2017 Niko and her family moved to an old miner’s cottage in Cornwall.
They built a private studio for Niko in their garden, where she now creates
and experiments to her heart’s content.
