About Naomi Brangwyn

Naomi uses the traditional techniques of stained glass but her work is a unique mix of glass, lead and nature. She takes her inspiration from the tenacity of nature but also from the glass itself - some glass just cries out to become a sunset, surf, or a calm sea and the colours constantly change between artificial or natural light and again with the passing of time of day or season.

Always intrigued by the process of taking a hard material to produce a delicate poppy, or how the softness of water or sky can be conveyed with harsh flat glass. Much of her work evolves, sketching with a glass cutter, she often incorporates metal and wires, and natural found objects, frequently layering the glass, sometimes picking out detail with engraving, never certain how a panel will really work until it's sufficiently stable to lift up - when it's too late to change.

Naomi studied art at Reading Art College and Islington Institute, later taking up textiles and photography, but in 2001 was introduced to stained glass.

Naomi can be commissioned through Obsidian Art gallery.
