About Valentine Tomin
Valentine Tomin trained as a technical illustrator before founding the graphic design agency, The Finer Detail, 32 years ago.
Fortunate to be in a creative environment daily, away from the office, Valentine continued to create artwork and experimented with a variety of mediums throughout the years. After enrolling on courses with notable pastel artists Marla Baggetta and Karen Margulis, Valentine settled on pastels as his preferred medium for landscapes.
Inspired by the dynamic quality of light in nature, Valentine focusses his attention on conveying the diversity of natural colours and movement in his work, finding the tactile element of pastels ideal for communicating this energy.
Time spent in the countryside around his home in Bedfordshire, as well as trips to the North Norfolk Coast, serve as Valentine’s inspiration. It is here where he often creates small sketches before working on the pieces in his studio.
Valentine lives on the River Great Ouse with his wife Gillian, daughter Gemma and Jack Russell Ronnie.
