Exquisite small Dartington Glass Jug hand engraved with blackberries and leaves by Sue Burne.
Measures approximately 12cm (W) at the widest point and 9cm (H). The base measures 5cm in diameter.
About Sue Burne:
Sue lives and works in Somerset.
Assessed by The Guild of Glass Engravers Sue has been awarded an Associate Fellowship. She is the current Chairman of the Guild. In 2014 she was a Finalist in Craft & Design magazine’s selected maker competition.
Much of Sue’s work is commissioned and some is now abroad as well as in the UK. She is inspired by the beautiful countryside around her home and by her love of the sea. Flora and fauna both real and imaginary feature in the designs she creates . There are examples of the wildlife of the Somerset Levels and the West Somerset coast but also mythical beasts such as dragons and the Phoenix.
Sue engraves using either a hand drill or flexi drive with diamond or stone burrs. She also use a sand blaster occasionally. Her work is mostly intaglio engraving, which gives a 3D effect when viewed through the glass.
Her work has been exhibited in many glass exhibitions at national and international level with the Guild of Glass Engravers and The Somerset Guild of Craftsmen.
