About the Artist
Harriet Brittaine is a Berkshire based figurative artist working in charcoal and oils. She focuses on light and form by careful control of values, and soft and hard edges. This series of paintings explores the distortion of form and colour of the human figure in water. The charcoal and chalk pieces were drawn over a layer of watercolour and ink - the marks, drips and splashes are reminiscent of the water itself and enhance the feeling of movement and distortion. The works were completed from notes, sketches and photographs taken on a trip to Sardinia in 2016.
She runs a number of classes as well as teaching life drawing and portrait drawing.
