About Karen Martin
Buckinghamshire based artist, Karen Martin studied mixed media, life drawing, printmaking and history of art at Amersham and Wycombe College.
She says one of the most exciting parts of creating artwork is taking risks, and not being afraid of making mistakes. After many years working as a midwife this was an exciting prospect, as she became addicted to the excitement of the unexpected.
Her work is influenced by found materials, collage and alternative methods of working, inspired by sketching and painting on location. Abstraction and the natural form gives inspiration, and the use of photography helps with detail. Keeping her work alive and evolving is essential to her practice.
She says that credit must also go to her enthusiastic tutors and the use of Boden Press printing studio.
Exhibiting regularly with local art groups and galleries and a member of Buckinghamshire Art Society, Karen also had work selected and exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2019.
