About Dawn Coulter Cruttenden
Dawn was born in Northern Ireland in 1972, studied at Rupert Stanley College of Art in Belfast before moving to Newcastle upon Tyne to the School of Art and Design.
After a successful career as an advertising copywriter, she stopped work to bring up her two daughters. She has been gradually building to a career as a full time artist since then.
After concentrating on watercolour seascapes and portraiture for several years, Dawn's style changed dramatically in 2015 when she combined her first loves of pencilwork and fairytales. The resulting exhibition "Once upon a Time..." shown in Northern Ireland and in London and was sold out when the entire collection of work was bought by singer Stevie Nicks. In autumn of 2015, Dawn became the first woman artist ever to be commissioned by The Savoy in London. Three illustrative pieces celebrating the opera singer Dame Nellie Melba, and the dessert made famous by her, will be permanently installed there from March 2016.
First exhibition at Trafalgar Studios in July 09 to accompany the production of 'Orwell- A Celebration' by Dominic Cavendish. Shortlisted for the Art and Escape Awards 2010. Featured in the 2010 Cross my Art Exhibition @210 Pentonville described as 'the largest most exciting private exhibition of contemporary art for London 2010.' Photography published in The Guardian, The Independent, Time Out.
Dawn also runs drawing and watercolour classes in North London and workshops for schools.
