About Heather Power
Heather likes to work in three main areas – Etching, Screenprint and Kiln Formed Glass.
She graduated from Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education with a BA Honours degree in Fine Art.
Heather likes to use both etching and screen-printing to create the images. Her work is mainly elements taken from the landscape. Etching with aquatint enables Heather to produce a rich dense black for the silhouetted winter trees.
Using screen-printing for some of Heather's work enables her to print on both the paper and glass. By framing with space between the two layers shadows from the glass layer fall on the paper. These shadows move during the day as the light moves round.
Recent work includes what the Oxford Times called "remarkable etchings of trees and evening meadow grasses silhouetted against a stark white background which enables the intricately etched bare branches to stand out as they would in nature when viewed against a clear winter sky".
The etching 'Islip Edge' was featured in the Derwent May "Oh You Pretty Things" column in The Times.
Heather also screen-prints on to glass then fuses the layers together in a kiln. The printed fused glass pieces are then returned to the kiln to be shaped into dishes, bowls and other functional forms.
Heather is a member of Oxford Printmakers where she make her etchings and screens.
Since graduating she has worked as one of the three technician managers at the Oxford Printmakers Co-operative, an open access print studio located near the centre of Oxford.
