About Chloe Romanos - Artist Statement

Chloe Romanos is a French jewellery designer and maker, based in Oxfordshire. Her training in archaeology and her fascination for art and crafts has inspired her to learn about transforming metals and combining different materials to create little poetic keepsakes.

“I like to create one of a kind statement jewellery that stands out on the body. I imagine and design pieces that are small pieces of wearable art.”

Each creation has a story behind it, from feathers and wings inspired by Art Nouveau to textured effects used to capture the weathered aspect of unearthed ancient archaeological treasures.

“I also like to let my imagination be guided by memories of inspiring places, quotes from books, or by the material itself.”

Using traditional silversmithing techniques, she hand-crafts all her creations from her home studio. She works with precious materials : sterling silver, 9ct gold and gemstones (opal, labradorite, garnet and amethyst are amongst her favourites). She learnt jewellery making and silversmithing at the Jewellery School in Birmingham, after studying Art History and Archaeology in Paris, and completing a PhD in Greek Archaeology in Athens.

Her work has been showcased in exhibitions including the British Museum, Oxfordshire Museum and the Royal Cornwall Museum. She is also a member of Oxfordshire Crafts Guild.
