About Rachel Wright

Rachel Wright is an artist specialising in embroidered textiles. She graduated from The University of Central England in 1994 with a Masters Degree. Her embroidered images are inspired by land, sea and cityscapes. Shapes and details are delicately echoed in hand or machine embroidered collages, using vibrant threads, worked over fabrics and papers. The effect of the stitch on the surface of the work gives a painterly quality.

The majority of the work is machine embroidery but when time allows her favourite way to work is entirely in hand stitch. This is a time consuming and demanding way to work but produces focussed, detailed results.

Rachel works from her home in the Buckinghamshire village of Shabbington.

She sells her work through various galleries and shops and has exhibited with The 62 group of Textile Artists, The Independent Textile Makers, The Society of designer Craftsmen and The Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen. She also shows at many Designer Maker fairs and prestigious art and craft events as well as undertaking commission work. She regularly shows her work at Obsidian Art, and for the last two years has had a large display of her work at the gallery as part of Bucks Open Studios in June.

Rachel will be showing at Obsidian again for Bucks Open Studios 2016 in June 2016.
