Nesting Bowls (Set of 3) by Sophie Smith (SS99)

A set of 3 bowls designed and handcrafted by Sophie Smith.

The bowls are handmade from stoneware clay, hand glazed and finished with real gold. 

The bowls have diameters of 11.5cm, 9cm and 7cm and a height of approximately 5cm.  They can be displayed separately or nested inside each other as shown.

About Sophie Smith 

Buckinghamshire artist designer-maker, Sophie Smith works from her home studio in High Wycombe. She has become well known for her colourful and quirky designs which are instantly recognisable and highly collectable. Sophie studied at Chelsea School of Art, and she has been exhibiting and selling her work all over the country for many years.

Sophie says of her work, “I have always been influenced by medieval art and design and this is reflected in my work.  I use simple designs.  I create different textures by cutting into the wet clay and by using slips as well as matt and gloss glazes.  Finally I use gold and platinum lustres to create a precious feel to the work.  I slipcast and hand build everything using Limoges earthenware casting slip.  Each piece is fired three times to achieve the lustre finish (the lustre contains 10% gold and platinum).

“My work has an emphasis on colour and fun.  It is highly decorative but can be functional too.”

The pots are not recommended for domestic use.

To clean use warm soapy water and a sponge.
