About Jenny Hoole
Jenny was born in Wilton, on the outskirts of Salisbury, Wiltshire and wanted to be a Fashion Designer from the age of 10.
Having qualified in fashion design from UCA- Epsom Jenny successfully followed this career path until relocating to Melbourne, Australia in 2004, where she first encountered the idea of glass.
On her return to UK, following an inspiring trip to Nerja, Spain in early 2008, the idea was realised and since 2010 Jenny has been self-employed working as a glass artist, designer and maker.
Artist’s Statement
My work in glass explores the relationship between colour and pattern – whether on the surface of a piece or deeply layered within one.
From a background as a womenswear designer, in industry, my fascination has always been observing the flow of colour, pattern and texture around a form and the interplay of shape, captured for a moment, across the body in motion. Harnessing fleeting moments of these movements using glass as a medium, to build a rich collection of inter related pieces, from a central idea, is a continuing theme.
The basis of my current pieces is the application of pattern, through composite layers of colour, to express texture and shape in primarily functional vessels. Often layers of tiny particles of glass are placed and then heated in the kiln, in multiple firings, to give the required strength of colour before the fused glass takes on a moulded shape in a further firing.
As the work evolves I want to explore the very different elements of contour, light and space to add a further dimension to the portfolio.
