Tortoiseshell Butterfly Earrings by Vikki Lafford Garside

A pair of beautiful and usual textile drop earrings, intricately hand embroidered and painted by Vikki Lafford Garside.

Hand-crafted from fabric, intricately embroidered and then hand painted. 

These beautiful butterflies hang from sterling silver hooks and as they are made from embroidered and hand painted fabric they are lightweight and flexible and very easy to wear. They are backed with very soft fabric on the reverse. The tiny antennae are made from flexible beading wire.

Due to the hand-crafted nature of the earrings, some very slight variations may occur. If they get wet, please just lay them flay and air dry. To preserve the condition of the earrings, avoid submerging in water and subjecting to high temperatures or prolonged periods of direct sunlight.

Each butterfly earring has a total drop of approximately 7cm inclusing the hook, and they have a width of approximately 3cm.

They are presented in a small gift box accompanied with a biography about the maker.

About Vikki Lafford Garside

Like many young girls, I dreamt of being a princess in a fairy tale, with sparkling crystal slippers and beautiful, flowing gowns of the most sumptuous fabrics, adorned with exquisite embroidery and embellishment. I imagined a world of fairies and woodland creatures inhabiting the gloomy depths of the Cotswold Countryside in which I spent my childhood.

My love of detail and embellishment was always a huge inspiration for my work and it led me to achieve a degree in Embroidery in 2002, followed by a Masters Degree in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art and Design. There I created my first collection of dresses based on old versions of popular fairy tales.

Now working as a designer-maker I am still inspired by the fairy tales, folklore and nature I appreciated as a child. I mix traditional hand stitch and hand painting with innovative techniques of stitch, print and heat manipulation to create feminine, hand crafted dresses and accessories. My fashion accessories collection features individually hand crafted brooches and clips in luxury fabrics, adorned with intricate embroidery, Japanese glass  beads, Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls.
