About Julia Thompson
Based in rural Somerset England, Julia Thompson embraces living on the wild side allowing her idyllic surroundings to inspire much of her contemporary jewellery design. Unusual, full of narrative and ethical, Julia uses traditional hand fabrication techniques to create her designs working in recycled sterling silver and Fairtrade Gold.
Julia is a member of The Somerset Guild of Craftsmen, a Fairtrade Registered jeweller, and in 2012 was awarded the British craft & design Selected Silver Award in Jewellery & Precious Metals. She trained at Wimbledon School of Art London and is a Designer Maker Honours graduate in Three Dimensional Design. Further to this Julia studied the art of silver jewellery design in Mexico, before a part time apprenticeship with a renowned Hatton Garden trained Silversmith whilst she set up her jewellery business and brand.
Never idle, Julia takes to the road in the summer with her classic caravan and bespoke marquee to host silversmith workshops. Returning to her studio in the autumn she opens her doors to run small group evening classes and bespoke wedding /civil partnership ring courses for folk who wish to make their own. Working closely with clients, Julia offers an exclusive design service and has undertaken private commissions since 2006. Achievements include an exclusive major silver restoration project for an original Archibald Knox Liberty Cup, a collection designed specifically for The British Museum London, and currently working on a designer piece for The London Royal Opera House.
